Pearl of the Orient - Day 2 (Saturday)

Waking up late on a holiday is so ecstatic. We had brunch and drove to the island. With no definite plans, we sort of left it to the feel of the moment to do things that fancy us. After visiting the newborn baby of a friend, we started driving to Baru Feringghi, Penang's famous beach. The drive was long as there was road contruction going on and by the time we arrived, all of us were very hungry and grumpy. So, we settled for some Western food by the beach. The view was entertaining, as there were so many activities happening on the beach. Other than the usual picnickers, sunbathers, swimmers and people watchers, there were also horses available for riding, jet skiing, boat riding, banana speed and parachuting. After lunch, we decided on a walk along the beach. Quite suddenly my hubby and his friend decided to parachute. I quickly turned down the offer as the idea of hanging in the air from a parachute that is being pulled by a speed boat doesn't seem to do justice to the lunch that I just ate. So off they went to circle the sea in a parachute.

Along our walk, we also discovered a couple of nice, cosy looking bars just off the beach. Our destination the next time we are back to Batu Feringghi. As evening dawned, we decided to head back, taking the long drive along Balik Pulau, back to the city and main land. The scenery along the coastal and then mountaneous road was breathtaking. I think the pictures speak louder than my mere mundane words.

After feasting our eyes with the breathtaking scenery, we headed to Batu Kawan for some sea food. My favourite crab was on the list and it was indeed a feast of the senses. I tried something new during dinner, a kind of crab shell, where you have to use toothpicks to dig out the flesh and then eat it dipped in a kind of spicy sourish sauce.

Feeling heavy, literally, we slowly made our way back home. As the night was young, we decided to hang out in the garden under the stars and moon. Our conversation was very enriching, ranging from politics to economy to philospohy and movies and songs.
