It feels like any1 and every1 have got to write on this one. It is almost a SIN if you don't. Yeah, yeah, yeah...I AM talking about the recent HINDRAF rally. I was at Putrajaya for the first rally. It was all sensible back then. It looked like there was a just cause to fight for. But a couple of months fast forward, I am at a cross-road. I wanna support, but I wanna make sure that I am fighting for the right things, not BLIND folowership. When I saw some of the ralliers ( I don't know whether this word exists) carrying pics of Mahatma Gandhi, this phrase popped up in my confused mind 'experiments with truth' - the apt title of his biography. I think this is exactly what ALL Indian in Malaysia should be doing.
To do some SOUL searching before we battle the tear gas and water cannon. Can we IDENTIFY with the cause that is being fought for? What are the FOLLOW UP actions? I don't wanna be involved with a ONE-OFF thing. And most importantly how FAR are we gonna go with this outburst? I don't think I found satisfactory answers for the above questions, so I DIDN'T join the rally. I know some people who said that they joined the rally (though they watched the whole show from al-jazeera, comfortably seated in their living room , perhaps biting at a chicken or two considering that it was Sunday and most Malaysian Indian household will have chicken curry cooking). ME - I can bravely say no. That doesn't make me less of an Indian. In fact that makes me more mature, as I have given it considerable thought and debate and finally decided.
